Inmaculada Egido is Professor of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), Spain, specializing in Comparative Education and Educational Policy in Europe and Latin America. Her main research area is on comparative educational policy, focusing on school management and leadership and institutional autonomy in European countries, as well as on the politics of education reform in Europe and Latin America. She has published on these themes in over ten books and numerous articles in specialist journals, and has collaborated with different international organizations including: the European Union, OECD, Convenio Andrés Bello, and OEI (Organización de Estados Iberoamericanos para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura).

She teaches pre and postgraduate courses at the Faculty of Teacher Education of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain and the Universidad del Valle de Orizaba (UNIVO), Mexico. She also teaches a postgraduate course at the History of Education and Comparative Education Department of the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED). She is Program Director of the Master of Educational Quality and Improvement of the UAM.

She has participated in several research projects about the autonomy of schools and the role of school heads in Europe. Her main current research projects are the changes in Spanish universities within the European space of higher education, and the educational policy of Spain abroad.

From the very beginning, Egido's professional career has been linked to comparative education, a field that she pioneered in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She has also catalyzed research in this area establishing it into the doctoral programs of the university and through her leadership in different research projects. Egido has been an active member of the Sociedad Española de Educación Comparada since 1994, and in 2006 became its Secretary. She is likewise a member of the Editorial Board of the Revista Española de Educación Comparada. In these capacities, she has contributed pro-actively to developing the field of comparative education in and from Spain.

Inmaculada Egido has also played an important role in nurturing the new generations of comparativists in the Spanish-speaking world. In addition to supervising doctoral students in the field of comparative education, she also teaches the following comparative courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels: Early Childhood and Primary Education in Europe, Politics of Education Reform from an International Perspective, Quality and Equity: Challenges to Educational Change in Europe, and Quality of Education from a Contemporary and International Perspective.
