Alexander N. Dzhurinskiy is Doctor of Sciences in Education (1985), Professor (since 1990), Member of the Russian Academy of Education (since 2004), and Department Director at the Moscow Pedagogical State University, Russia.

Born in Nemirov (Ukraine) in 1941, Dzhurinskiy was educated at the Pedagogical Institute of Alma-Ata (Kazakhstan) and graduated with excellence diploma in 1963. His career path started from being a school teacher in Kazakhstan (1963), eventually being promoted to positions of Associate Professor of Department of General History at the Pedagogical Institute, Alma-Ata; and Senior Researcher and Director of Department of Worldwide Pilot Schools at the Pedagogical Academy of USSR, Moscow, Russia. Other key positions he held include: Fellow of French Government at the University Rene-Descartes, Paris, France; Professor of Department of Education, Director of scientific group on history and comparative education at the Moscow Pedagogical State University; Foreign Professor of Educational Institute at the Tsukuba University, Japan; and Director of Department of Aesthetic and Labor Education at the Moscow Pedagogical State University (1996 to present).

Alexander Dzhurinskiy is one of the key experts in the field of comparative education in Russia and former Soviet Union. He has an impressive list of publications running close to 200 in number. In addition, Dzhurinskiy is one of the founders of the Russian Council of Comparative Education (RCCE) (1995). He works on issues related to comparative education studies as a research field and as a teaching subject. More specifically, he is an expert of on comparative education methodology, comparative analysis of history education, school systems, primary, secondary and higher education, theories and practices of learning and instruction, pilot schools, internationalization of education, globalization of education, and multicultural education. Dzhurinskiy is author of more than 20 books and textbooks widely circulating within higher educational institutions of the Russian Federation, Belarus, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan (the most noticeable outcome from his research).

Alexander Dzhurinskiy has advised over ten candidates and doctors of sciences in education. He maintains extensive collaboration networks with educators in Belarus, China, Germany, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Netherlands, and Ukraine. As an expert in comparative education, he participated in the project "Education of Third Age", sponsored by Seoul National University (2003), as well as the Russian-Hollandaise project "Preschool Education" (2005-2007). He regularly presents papers at international conferences on comparative education. The most notable panels included the Conference of Japan Comparative Education Society, Nagoya University, Japan (1993) and Worldwide Comparative Education Forum, Beijing Normal University, China (2002). He lectured at Bohum University, Germany (1999), International Education Forum, Beijing, China (2003), International Conference "Japan and Russia: Dialogue and Cultural Interaction", Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia (2003), 6th International Conference on Educational Research, Seoul National University, Korea (2005), Conference on Secondary Education Reform, National Pedagogical University, Almaty, Kazakhstan (2007).
