Doctoral Program in Comparative Education

The doctoral program in comparative education is committed to assist the students to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Knowledge: To deeply understand the components and main modern educational theories and ideological trends, to comprehensively master the educational characteristics and trends of different countries and regions as well as a specialized knowledge of comparative education.
  2. Capability: To skillfully use scientific methods to conduct comparative research on the education of countries and regions, thoroughly analyze the nation’s education with reference to their international experiences, and strengthen the ability to have international educational exchange and discourse.
  3. Attitude: To critically analyze global experiences and contribute to their nation’s educational reform and development; to learn about the diversity and richness of worldwide education with an open mind, and respect the uniqueness in education and culture of different countries and regions; to develop a passion for teaching, and deeply understand the significance and responsibilities of the academic profession, especially that of comparative education research.

There are five research orientations in the doctoral program: Comparative Educational Theory, Comparative Educational Policy and Administration, Comparative Basic Education, Comparative Higher Education, Cross-cultural Education. Major courses for doctoral students include: Philosophical Foundation of Western Education, Comparative Studies on Major Issues of Contemporary Education Reform, Theories and Methodologies of Comparative Education, etc. Specialized courses include: Contemporary Western Educational Theories and Ideologies, Policy Analysis of Worldwide Education, Comparative Research on Frontier Issues in Basic Education, Interdisciplinary Studies on Higher Education, Theories and Practices of Cross-cultural Education, etc.
