On November 2, 2023, IICE Professor JIANG Yingmin was invited by the China Education International Exchange Association to participate in the 45th Anniversary of the Conclusion of the Sino-Japanese Peace and Friendship Treaty - 2023 Sino-Japanese Youth Friendly Exchange Conference. The conference was jointly organized by the China Education International Exchange Association and the Shanghai Education International Exchange Association, with the Shanghai International Studies University Affiliated Foreign Language School as the hosting institution.

During this event, Professor JIANG conducted a 60-minute lecture. The lecture centered on the theme "What Does 'Cultural Understanding' Mean?". It began by introducing the idea of whether a standardized Chinese identity exists and what it might entail. Using the medium through which interpersonal communication is established, the lecture explained the prerequisites and foundations of "understanding". It then compared the impact of cultural differences between China and Japan on educational practices. Finally, Professor JIANG used a two-dimensional quadrant diagram of "subject-object" and "positive-negative" to illustrate different modes and categories of cultural understanding.

IICE Professor JIANG's lecture underscored the significance of cultural understanding in the longstanding friendly exchanges between China and Japan in education. The conference had a positive impact on deepening cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between the two nations and promoting friendly exchanges among Chinese and Japanese youth.
