On November 12-14, the 13th National Curriculum Academic Symposium was held at Chongqing Normal University. The Symposium was organized by the National Curriculum Academic Committee and hosted by the Faculty of Education Sciences at Chongqing Normal University. The theme of the meeting was "Chinese-style Modernization and Basic Education Curriculum Reform". More than 500 participants, including scholars from various universities, research institutes, educational research departments, primary and secondary school teachers, as well as some master's and doctoral students attended the on-site Symposium.
IICE Professor YANG Mingquan was invited to participate in this symposium and delivered a keynote speech titled "The Concept of 'Interdisciplinarity' in the Context of Curriculum Reform: Theoretical Clarification and Educational Implications". He pointed out that in the context of continuous reforms in basic education curriculum, achieving comprehensive education through "interdisciplinarity" has become a new challenge in today's era. First, he reviewed the historical development of the concept of "interdisciplinarity", considering it as one of the structural forms of human knowledge and a concrete expression of human knowledge exploration with diverse manifestations in practice. Secondly, he analyzed the educational implications of "interdisciplinarity", demonstrating the generation of new forms of knowledge, expansion of curriculum content, diversification of curriculum formats, promotion of curriculum integration, development of students' comprehensive literacy, and facilitation of the application of interdisciplinary knowledge. Finally, he explored the practical manifestations of "interdisciplinarity", focusing on interdisciplinary course development, collaborative interdisciplinary teaching and thematic interdisciplinary learning.
Following his presentation, IICE Professor YANG also addressed two questions raised by attending delegates. The issue of "interdisciplinarity" was a major topic of discussion at the symposium. Experts and scholars actively engaged in free exchanges, adopting an open and inclusive attitude, to discuss hot topics in curriculum reform and explore paths for curriculum development.
