IICE Project Team Conducted 2023 Global Competence Assessment of Primary and Secondary School Students in Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone

On September 7-8, 2023, IICE teachers HU Yiyun and JING Xiaoli led a project team to visit the Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone. They collaborated with the local Education, Culture and Sports Bureau to conduct the first round of testing for the 2023 Global Competence Assessment of primary and secondary school students in the Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone.


On September 7, both collaborating parties provided training to the responsible teachers from the participating schools at the Education Development Center of Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone. Deputy Director of the Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone Education Development Center HUANG Taiming and Director of the Development Department at the Education Development Center LIU Jihong began by giving an overview of the purpose, implementation, and assurance methods of this assessment, laying a solid foundation for its smooth execution.


Subsequently, IICE teacher JING conducted pre-assessment training for the teachers present, providing detailed information on the assessment's objectives, methods, preparations before the assessment and the assessment process.


In the final Q&A session, the Education Development Center of Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone and IICE project team addressed specific questions raised by the teachers, ensuring the assessment's standardized and scientifically conducted execution.


On September 8, the 2023 Global Competence Assessment of primary and secondary school students in the Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone officially began. Members of IICE project team and staff from the Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone Education Development Center separately went to five sample schools participating in the first round of testing to carry out related work, assisting in completing this round of assessment.

In recent years, Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone has continuously deepened Education for International Understanding in primary and secondary schools, strengthened the construction of the Education for International Understanding curriculum system. The aim is to cultivate a large number of international talents with a global perspective, an understanding of international rules, and the ability to participate in international affairs and competitions. The purpose of this assessment is to understand the current implementation of Education for International Understanding in the region, thereby further promoting schools to improve their curriculum and teaching.
