Publish Date:2023-09-17

On September 15-17, 2023, IICE Professor Sun Jin participated in the "National Academic Symposium on the Theory of Bildung and Research Models in German Literature." The symposium was jointly organized by the German Language College at Sichuan International Studies University and the editorial office of "Germanistische Kulturwissenschaften".

The focus of the symposium was to explore the theory of Bildung and research models in German literature, with the aim of conducting an in-depth examination of the concept of Bildung. "Bildung" is a richly nuanced German concept that has undergone a series of transformations throughout its historical development. Literature itself plays a crucial role in the concept of Bildung, and through an analysis of various German literary works, we can trace the evolution of this concept. The symposium primarily concentrated on topics such as the historical evolution of the concept of Bildung, the relationship between Bildung and the human conception, the interplay between the individual and society within the context of Bildung, and the representation of Bildung in literature.

In addition to moderating the presentations in the third sub-forum, Professor Sun participated in a discussion on the theme of Bildung. Under the guidance of Professor Wang Bingjun, he engaged in a conversation with Professor Wei Yuqing, Professor Fan Jieping, Professor Ren Weidong, and Professor Jia Hanfei to delve into the concept of Bildung and German literature research. During this discussion, Professor Sun emphasized the need for interdisciplinary research in German literary studies to open up more dimensions for literary research. He also pointed out that valuable educational concepts are embedded in literary works, especially in cultivation novels, highlighting the common ground between literature and educational studies.

Through the exchanges and discussions, the participating experts and scholars gained a deeper understanding of the theory of Bildung and research in German literature. They also put forward new insights and suggestions for future research directions.
