IICE Professor SUN Jin’s Translation Work Published

In August 2020, the Chinese version for the monograph “An Overview of the German Education System-Production, Structure and Regulation, jointly translated by IICE Professor SUN Jin and a former student of IICE NING Haiqin, was published by Education Science Press.

 

The book presents an overview of the German education system from seven perspectives. From a historical perspective, it explains how the structure of the German education system developed and formed; from a structural perspective, it shows the development status, reforms and trends of all levels of education in Germany at the beginning of the 21st century; from the perspective of educational sociology, it analyzes the problems of education equity and the benefits of education in Germany in various dimensions; from the perspective of regulation theory, it points out the federal, state and local levels of educational management and coordination mechanisms, and the coordination mechanism of individual schools as well as relevant shifts in education regulation methods. From the perspective of quality, it summarizes the performance and problems of German students in school achievement tests at home and abroad, and analyzes the dimensions and indicators that measure school quality and curriculum quality; from the perspective of development, it introduces Germany's use of education evaluation, education monitoring and measures for development; from the perspective of school theory, it explores the capacity-building functions, screening and distribution functions, and integration and legalization functions undertaken at German schools.

 

There are three original authors of the German version of the book. Prof. Dr. Isabell van Ackeren is a Professor of Education and Vice President of University of Duisburg-Essen. His main research areas are education regulation and governance, school improvement and teacher professional development. Prof. Klaus Klem is a Professor of Education at the University of Duisburg-Essen. His main research areas are school development planning, achievement testing and education funding. Prof. Svenja M. Kuhn is a Professor of Education at Koblenz-Landland University. His main research areas are education regulation and school development and innovation.
