From October 23 to 30, 2019, IICE Professor WANG Lu led a delegation to attend the LEAD2 Project conference in Poland and Austria. The full name for LEAD was China-Europe University Governance and Academic Leadership Improvement.

The first half of the conference was held at Silesia Polytechnic University, Poland. Participants shared international comparative studies on university governance at various levels (institutional level, collegial level, departmental level), internationalization of higher education and its management, university networking, and so on. IICE post-doctoral student MO Yuwan presented in a parallel session.

The second half of the conference was organized at University of Vienna, Austria, focusing on the topic of world university rankings and their impact on university governance. Professor WANG Lu delivered a keynote speech on behalf of IICE, and discussed with other participants research problems such as ‘what are the main responsibilities of a dean in charge of doctoral programs’, ‘is a dean supposed to be a leader’, ‘what can a dean do to convince his people of his leadership’, ‘what is the necessary knowledge and skills needed to manage a doctoral program successfully’.

IICE post-doctoral student HU Rui and master’s student WANG Liyuan also joined the delegation.
