On September 18, 2018, IICE faculty members had a seminar to discuss President Xi Jinping’s recent speech on education delivered at the National Education Congress on this year’s Teachers’ Day (September 10). The seminar began by reviewing President Xi’s major remarks on education in the past few years, followed by a sharing session on actual educational work. Combining reflections of personal educational praxis and research, each of the participants shared their thoughts on some major topics covered by President Xi’s speech, such as the direction of educational reform and development, missions of education in the new times, establishment of a whole-person cultivation system, teacher education, and the synergetic collaboration by various stakeholders including the government, schools and universities, family, and the society.
