On October 25, 2023, Professor LI Jun from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, delivered a lecture titled "Educational Improvement Science as an Emerging Interdisciplinary Field: Global Perspectives and Prospects". The lecture was chaired by IICE Professor LIU Baocun.
Professor LI first introduced the origin, brief history, and basic concepts of educational improvement science, providing conceptual distinctions for terms such as "improvement", "development" and "innovation". He analyzed variables influencing educational improvement and characteristics of organizations involved in educational improvement and professional learning. He emphasized that improvement should be the core value of education, and only by enhancing the ability for improvement can education truly achieve sustainable development. Professor LI also expounded his understanding of "what constitutes good education", asserting that good education should contribute to human freedom, the construction of a global community, and ongoing improvement.
This lecture offered a novel perspective and profound insights, prompting deep reflection among the attending faculty and students. During the discussion session, Professor LI addressed questions from the audience and engaged in in-depth exploration and exchange with faculty and students.
