On November 15, 2022, IICE Professor GAO Yimin delivered a lecture entitled “Looking at the New Educational Movement in Japan from The Little Girl at the Window- and talking about the literature research method”. The lecture was chaired by IICE Professor LIU Baocun, with 137 teachers and students attending the meeting online.
Professor GAO explained around three parts: “The text story of The Little Girl at the Window”, “The impact of the new education movement on Japan from The Little Girl at the Window” and “How to use the literature research method”. At first, he told the main story of The Little Girl at the Window, then put forward several research questions from the perspective of academic workers. Then he combed the impact of the new education movement on Japanese education from the life of the headmaster, Zongzuo Kobayashi, mentioned in The Little Girl at the Window, combined with the social background of Japan at that time.
After talking about The Little Girl at the Window, Professor GAO took the opportunity to put forward his thoughts on literature research. He pointed out that any literature (including non-academic or practical literature) can be the object of literature research. Like any other research method, literature research also depends on good research questions. Putting forward good research questions is help to find and analyze data. Without good knowledge, theoretical literacy and good thinking quality, no matter what method, its role cannot be played. Therefore, we should not only pay attention to method training, but also pay attention to the improvement of knowledge and theoretical literacy.
At the end, Professor GAO had further discussions with online teachers and students.
