Publish Date:2022-04-26

On April 26, 2022, IICE DING Ruichang delivered a lecture entitled The Mechanism and Effectiveness of International Organizations' Participation in Global Educational Governance” for IICE’s International Education Podium. The lecture was chaired by IICE associate professor HUANG Yu and attended by faculty members and graduate students from the IICE.

At the beginning, Dr. DING discussed the concept and dimensions of global educational governance. Next, he focused on the advantages, power sources and main mechanisms of international organizations participating in global educational governance. He believed that international organizations, as the most active participants in global educational governance besides national actors, have many significant advantages over other actors in terms of identity, resources and platforms. Although sovereign countries still play a leading role, international organizations can exert important influence on the development and transformation of global education by virtue of four kinds of powers: mandatory, productive, structural and institutional. Dr. DING divided the mechanisms of international organizations participating in global educational governance into hard mechanisms and soft mechanisms, and the soft mechanisms are further divided into potential soft mechanisms and apparent soft mechanisms. Then, he talked about the current difficulties faced by the whole global educational governance system and some inherent limitations of international organizations in global educational governance. Finally, Dr. DING analyzed the internal and external challenges and problems faced by China in cooperation with international organizations on global educational governance. At the end, he had further discussions with teachers and students.
