Publish Date:2023-11-28

On November 28, 2023, Professor Mohammad Reza Sarkar ARANI from the Faculty of Education at Nagoya University in Japan delivered a lecture titled "Comparison as a Lens: How Cross-Cultural Studies Can Uncover Cultural Scripts and Teaching Logics in Classroom Instruction". The lecture was chaired by IICE Lecturer HU Yiyun.

Firstly, Professor ARANI delved into the topic of "What are cultural scripts", introducing the concept of "cultural scripts" in classroom teaching research. He highlighted that in different cultural contexts, there are variations in children's perceptions, teachers' behavioral logic and teaching beliefs. Often, teachers are unaware of their own ways of thinking and behavioral logic in classroom teaching. He emphasized that teachers, through collecting empirical evidence from classroom observations and engaging in dialogue with teachers from diverse cultural backgrounds, could see themselves in the mirror, thereby discovering the implicit characteristics of teaching concepts, beliefs, and values in classroom teaching. He believed that this is an important step in promoting changes in classroom teaching.

During the discussion session, students engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions with Professor ARANI regarding the significance and value of cross-cultural studies. Lecturer HU, on behalf of IICE, presented a gift to Professor ARANI.
