Professor ZHANG began by illustrating the transition from governance to global governance, and how the concept of global governance developed into what it is today. He pointed out that the idea of global governance impacted today’s education mostly from four aspects. First of all, each nation should go great lengths to promote educational internationalization under the idea of global governance; secondly, nations ought to strengthen multilateral cooperation in education and form specific schemes and contracts for joint governance in education; thirdly, professionalism is once again highlighted and called upon for educational standards that apply globally; fourthly, international assessment is called for under the idea of global governance in order to provide best educational praxis.
Based upon these aspects, Professor ZHANG shared his thoughts on the new mission of comparative educationalists. He held that comparative education researchers could contribute to a higher level of academics under this new backdrop by exploring new fields to study, employing new methods of research, and even developing new standards for educational assessments.
