Lecture (No. 99) Educational Praxis in Finnish Classrooms

On October 22, 2016, Mr. Ville Raatikainen, the Headmaster of Lielahti School in Tampere, Finland, delivered a lecture entitled “Educational Praxis in Finnish Classrooms” for IICE’s International Education Podium. The lecture was chaired by IICE Professor LIU Baocun and attended by graduate students from the IICE and forefront teachers from some secondary and primary schools in Beijing.

 

Mr. Raatikainen was once one of the youngest headteachers in Finland when he took the position 10 plus years ago. Over the past decade, he has had abundant experiences in teaching and school management. In the lecture, he detailed such topics as Finnish educational system, school types, curricula settings, the success and challenges of education in Finland. He emphasized that trust lays a foundation of effective collaborations among society, schools, teachers, parents and students. In the final Q&A round, Mr. Raatikainen had heated discussions with audiences on some detailed issues such as the workload of Finnish teachers, and structure of Finnish classrooms.
