On October 22, 2016, Associate Professor CAI Yuzhuo from Tampere University, Finland delivered a lecture entitled “Can the secrets to Finnish Educational Success be Replicated?” for IICE’s International Education Podium. The lecture was chaired by IICE Professor LIU Baocun and attended by graduate students from the IICE and teachers from some secondary and primary schools in Beijing.
Prof. CAI compared basic education in Finland and China and concluded that the success to Finnish education lies in proper absorption of suggestions on educational reform from outside and making them compatible with the country’s educational tradition from inside. A lesson that Chinese education may draw is to have a well-positioned educational idea and purpose first before implementing reform measures.
