On October 14, 2016, Professor Mohammad Reza Sarkar Arani from Nagoya University delivered a lecture entitled “A Study of Course Case: Connotation and Extension” for IICE’s International Education Podium. The lecture was chaired by IICE Professor GAO Yimin and attended by graduate students from the IICE.

Professor Arani is an expert in course case study and over the past thirty years he has been conducting outstanding comparative researches on courses in various countries including Japan, Iran, China, Singapore, Malaysia, and has made contributions to popularizing the research of course cases.

In the lecture, which Professor Arani based on his own academic experiences, he divided academic research into four levels: theory, teaching and learning methodology, practical method, and teaching and learning strategies. He argued that the first and fourth levels are relatively easy to reach, while the second and third ones demand many efforts. Then using one of his papers, Professor Arani interacted with audiences and shared his experience of conducting course case studies.
