Local Governance and Role of Local Government in Education Policy: International Education Symposium (No.92)

 On April 21, 2016, Professor Philippe Raimbault, Director of the Toulouse University Political Science Department, delivered a lecture entitled “Local Governance and Role of Local Government in Education Policy” for IICE’s International Education Podium. The lecture was chaired by IICE Associate Professor LIU Min and attended by faculty and graduate students from the Faculty of Education and School of Government.

 

In the lecture, Prof. Raimbault talked about the concept of governance and recalled several decentralization reforms in the history of France. He explained the role, function and transformation of administrative organizations of all four levels in education policy of decentralization: central government, region, department and commune. He also discussed the concept of policy “experiment” at the local level and how it helped improve national policy. At the end of the lecture, Prof. Raimbault answered questions posed by the attendees.
