A Comparison between China’s Education and Foreign Education: A Study of Comparative Education from a Critical and Cultural Perspective: International Education Symposium (No.78)
Publish Date:2015-06-15
On June 11, 2015, Professor YANG Mingquan delivered the above-titled lecture for the IICE’s International Education Podium, which was attended by Ph.D. and Master’s students.

In the lecture, Professor YANG reviewed and reflected upon his yearlong (April 2014-2015) experience as a visiting scholar at the University of Central Florida (USA), during which he conducted research and participated in academic exchange on curricula theories and comparative education. Following a review of the development of comparative education, he compared studies in China and the U.S, pointing out some new directions that deserve further reflection, discussing concepts such as “value neutrality” and “value overload,” “government power” and “two perspectives,” “critical thinking” and “switching to post-modernity,” and “international perspective” and “domestic efforts.”

Finally, he talked about his own experiences as a researcher at Central Florida. He also interpreted the relationship between education and culture from the perspective of Chinese traditional culture and discussed the role of culture in interpreting education differences and how this can support the aim of achieving harmony internationally.
