Challenges Brought by Globalization to Education Internationalization and Coping Strategies: International Education Symposium (No.75)

        On May 20, 2015, Professor Linda Serra Hagedorn from Iowa State University (USA) gave the above-titled lecture for the IICE’s International Education Podium. Professor LIU Baocun chaired the lecture, which was attended by international and Chinese Ph.D. and Master’s students.

 

Professor Hagedorn is Associate Dean of College of Human Sciences Professor at Iowa State University and past president of the Association for the Study of Higher Education in the U.S. Her main research interests include higher education, especially internationalization of higher education, community services, student services, and diversity.

 

In the lecture, Professor Hagedorn discussed globalization and education internationalization, particularly ten factors driving education internationalization: increased value of international diploma, expansion of middle class, small family units, market demand for international students in countries like the U.S and U.K, enhanced international cooperation, role of agencies, development of pre- and extra courses, wide use of English, the pursuit of world peace, and technology advances in education. She concluded by discussing how to seize opportunities and handle challenges imposed by globalization in the field of education.
