International Education Symposium (No.52): Basic Education in Ukraine

On the morning of November 13th, 2013, Dr. Stovit, Professor from Ukraine National Academy of Education, Ms. Tozkaya, head of the Yalinka Kindergarten of Kiev and Ms. Ofizkaya, principal of Donetsk 85th medical high school jointly presented the 52nd International Education Symposium lecture-----Basic Education in Ukraine” in Room 723, Yingdong Building, Beijing Normal University. The symposium was moderated by Xiao Su, and many teachers and students from various departments including IICE participated in the event.
Three professors introduced basic education in Ukraine from different angles. Dr. Stovit introduced the extra-school education in Ukraine, a way in which students can choose freely their study directions and study contents, to make students stick to their own learning interests. Ms. Tozkaya gave a vivid and humorous introduction to how to transform Sukhomlinsky’s works into teaching materials, letting students learn the educational thoughts hidden in literary works. Ms. Ofizkaya focused on the conditions of the medical school she worked in and gave a detailed introduction to the reading materials and activities of students at all levels. Their explanations provided us a deep understanding of basic education in Ukraine.
          After that, three professors had an in-depth discussion on related issues of basic education in Ukraine with the students. Teacher Xiao Su made a conclusion for this symposium and brought it to a successful end.
