Professor Francois Dumas, Associate Director, Higher Education Research Evaluation and Outcome Prediction Commission, Ministry of National Education, brought to IICE his lecture titled “Evaluation and Inspection of French education.” The presentation was moderated by Dr. LIU Min, and translated by Ms. ZHANG Mengqi, and attended by many doctoral and Master’s students at IICE.
Prof. Dumas’ lecture was made up of three core components. He first introduced the French education system, then, he focused on illustrating the evaluation system for French students. Prof. Dumas pointed out that the next generation of evaluation tools in France should mainly have two purposes, to be used by teachers as a measure of evaluation for one, and for another, to provide navigation for central and district supervision from a national point of view. In the third section of his lecture, Prof. Dumas gave an overview of the current state of student learning outcome evaluation and teacher career preparation in France. He believes that in order to revitalize teacher career training, three sets of guidelines should be followed: first, establish an actual evaluation of the teacher education programs; second, focus training contents on what worries teachers the most; third, measure the impacts of teacher training have on improving student performance.
Last but not least, a Q&A session was lively held between students and Prof. Dumas. His enriching and humorous contents were greatly appreciated.
