On November 7th, 2012, Senior Education Specialist Dr. XIAO Liping of World Bank China Office visited BNU-IICE and led a lecture titled “World Bank and Education in China.” The lecture and discussions were moderated by Dr. TENG Jun, and students of IICE were invited to participate.
Before the lecture, Director of IICE, Prof. LIU Baocun officially presented Dr. XIAO her recognition as the center’s adjunct professor. Dr. Xiao gave an introduction of the development history of the World Bank, followed by the functions and components of each of the departments, and she also made a point to illustrate some of the organization procedures. This intriguing description gave the audience a holistic view of World Bank. In the meantime, the audience also had a chance to learn about the cooperation between China and the World Bank, especially in the education sector. She believes that although China’s economic strength has greatly advanced, such as decreasing loans since the founding of the nation, China and the World Bank are broadening their cooperation in technology. She emphasized that China should amply use a resource and platform of World Bank’s caliber to advocate for sustainable development.
Through the lecture, students had a chance to learn, discuss, and ask questions about the work of World Bank and the cooperation with China in the education sector.
