On March 4, 2023, the "ChatGPT and the Future of Education" forum held online and offline. The forum was organized by the Journal of Educational Research, hosted by the Institute of Basic Education Reform and Development of East China Normal University, and co-organized by the IICE of Beijing Normal University and others. Experts and scholars in education and artificial intelligence discussed 7 topics, including "A historical narrative of technology transforming education", "The connotation and position of ChatGPT in an educational perspective", "ChatGPT's educational applications: innovations and limitations", "Who will be future educators and how to be [future educators]", "Is students’ use ChatGPT a new literacy or a new problem?", "Rethinking computational education" and "ChatGPT and academic writing in the future of education".

IICE Professor LIU Baocun attended and delivered a speech titled "How New AI Tools Like ChatGPT Impact Education Research and What We Can Do." He said AI tools like ChatGPT can help researchers quickly grasp key ideas in related work, design studies, and analyze data, improving research efficiency. They also provide new ways to study education. However, AI tools like ChatGPT may also pose risks to academic ethics, values, and data security. We can't ignore the opportunities AI tools offer education research, but we also cannot blindly rely on technology. How can we maintain researchers' subjectivity and creativity? How can we turn AI's impact on academia into opportunities? These are questions all educators and scholars should reflect deeply on.
